Reflecting on Negotiated practice, I feel that I have learnt a lot about what works for me as an illustrator. My personal style has definitely developed during this project and I am very happy with my final outcomes. Initially I was unhappy with my illustrative style and using Adobe Photoshop a lot.
My confidence to use hand based media and to create pencil drawings has improved very much. I no longer feel limited by what I am doing and have started to really enjoy producing my work.
I have changed and developed my learning agreement a few times throughout this project as I realised my aims were different. This is something I have learnt from and for future briefs I will ensure I am certain about my goals.
Basing my project upon conversations was exciting and I enjoyed focusing on people and words. Authorial illustration allowed me to have more control over my outcomes and take responsibility for the content at the same time as being selective.
I have recorded my progress throughout the brief via an online blog which can be found at jessillustration.blogspot.com.
I created a basic website to promote my work which can be found at www.jessgooch.com. I also made a book using ‘blurb’ based upon overheard conversations in Sainsbury’s to show my final illustrations and ideas.
I realise that I should make more use of tutorials as Joel made me see that I need to be more confident and if something isn’t going right to change it sooner.
I definitely feel that negotiated practice has been a great help in finding out a lot about the way that I work and my interests, as well as what is successful and what is not.
Overall I am very pleased with my final illustrations, website and book and I feel that I have a lot of knowledge from negotiated practice that I can transfer to other briefs.

TUTORIAL 15/12
Today I had a tutorial with Joel. He made me realise that I need to be more confident and if something isn't going right to change it sooner. I am going to make my conversation book, and aim to do more illustrations to go into it as well.

ONE WEEK LEFT...
What I am thinking at the moment is that using images of people and stating where they are/ what time is not as successful as my personal interpretations of conversations.
I have found it difficult recording conversations in a particular aisle or area within Sainsbury's as I was going to restrict the way I measure a place, but there are not always enough people around.
I am going to produce a little book showing my interpretation of conversation snippets.
